Q&A: What can I do for harsh scars left from severe acne from my teenage years?
Thank you for your question. It would be helpful to know your age and some other medical history but from the information provided there are technologies such as the eMatrix or Fractional CO2 that would help. Much also depends on the type of acne scar you have. The best thing to do would be to consult a doctor who is well versed in laser technologies as they would have several options available to you and can explain the benefits of each one.
First of all you can get rid of fine dark hair as long as it is not light hair. You do need the proper equipment as well as it needs to be powerful enough to get rid of fine hair. At Advanced Dermatology we do have a 1064 nm long pulsed laser that can get rid of your facial fine dark hair. If you have dark skin, or the gentlelase, a very powerful system for hair removal that has the capacity to get rid of fine hair on lighter skin.
For acne scarring we use both the Fraxel Laser and Sublative (Ematrix) to smooth out the scars then we can fill what is left with a filler called Bellafill. This combination has worked extremely well for our patients with acne scars. This is a process of usually 5 treatments once per month.
As far as dermaplaning, I had not heard that it causes more acne nor sebaceous glands to grow. I have not had that experience with my patients either. This, of course doesn’t mean that it couldn’t happen uncommonly.
