Hair Transplantation with Natural-looking Hairline

Dr. Wentland has extensive experience in the complex field of follicular units. Using follicular units, Dr. Wentland can help you achieve a natural hair line with greater fullness and apparent volume of hair.

Male pattern baldness is a progressive disorder which causes men to lose hair gradually over the front, top and back of the head. Due to heredity, the hormone testosterone interacts negatively with these hair follicles, resulting in gradual hair loss. The hair on the sides and lower back of the head is not affected, which makes hair transplantation possible.

Small grafts, containing varying numbers of hair follicles, are taken from the permanent "donor hair" area on the sides and back of the head and removed to receptor sites in the balding or thinning areas. After the grafts are removed from the donor area, sutures are used to join the hair-bearing scalp back together again. These sutures are hidden under the hair and cannot be seen.

Dr. Wentland has chosen a hair transplantation method which does not produce the "plug look" or white scars of old technology, round grafts, nor the sparse look of a large, single session, consisting entirely of one or two hairgrafts. Our Micro technologyHair Transplantation technique overcomes both problems by using Monografts for soft, natural-looking hairlines, follicular unit grafts for the area just behind the hairline for a graduated increase in density, and for full density on the top and crown.

A natural whorl (or cowlick) is created in the crown by matching the grafts to the patient's original hair direction based on the patient's pattern of hair loss, donor hair availability, and hair density. Consideration must also be given to the individual's head shape in order to properly frame the face with the transplanted hair. The surgeon's goal is to achieve a natural look as well as a handsome appearance.
