What is your charity organization of choice and why?
Susan G. Komen-Business Charity This organization promotes education and support for breast cancer. Dr. Dixon is a yearly sponsor for the Race for the Cure Event. Cal Farleys Boys Ranch-Personal Charity These are kids that are unfortunate and need a break in life. He sponsors numerous events throughout the year.
What does living in the Amarillo community mean to you?
I'm from the Texas Panhandle (Spearman, TX) and came back here to take care of Panhandle People. A down to earth approach to people appeals to me. I don't "sell" surgery. I want to look back on my career and be proud of the services I have provided. Honesty and integrity are values I was raised to believe in.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
If you don't have time to do it right the first time...when will you have the time to do it over! Taking time and using the my skills to develop a surgical plan with a patient pays off. The training I have and continue to invest in is for the benefit of my patients.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
A cattle rancher, as I am currently involved in my family's business.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
The perfect outcome of a surgical procedure is when I know I have provided the best level of care and skill to address my patients' needs and they are happy with the results. If the patient says "Knowing what I know now...I would do it all again" is always rewarding. Most of my patients come to me from referrals from past patients. I am honored that they think so highly of me and I don't take that for granted. Thank you to all of my wonderful patients for sending me your friends and loved ones.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would like to retire when the job is no longer fun. I can't imagine a time that I will feel that way, but if id does I will stay in the Panhandle of Texas and farm and ranch.
