In Vitro Fertilization
Many couples find themselves frustrated by not being able to achieve pregnancy naturally after months or even years of trying.  In Vitro Fertilization may be the best option to help the couple become parents.  In Vitro is the process of fertilizing a woman’s egg with a man’s sperm in a laboratory.  When that procedure is successful, the fertilized egg is then placed back into the woman’s uterus to grow.  Talk to an infertility specialist or board certified OB/GYN in your area about your options.  In Vitro Fertilization is also referred to as In Vitro and IVF.
How In Vitro Fertilization Works
In Vitro involves five basic steps.  First, a woman’s healthy eggs are monitored in their natural state, the ovaries.  Sometimes the eggs need to be stimulated.  During the second step of IVF, the healthy eggs are removed from the ovaries by a physician.  Next, sperm is collected from the male.  The egg or eggs and sperm are then joined together in a lab.  During the fifth and final step, the fertilized eggs are then placed into the woman’s uterus.
Advantages of In Vitro Fertilization
*Couples achieve pregnancy
*Couples can become parents of more than one baby (multiples) with only one pregnancy

Disadvantages of In Vitro Fertilization
*Psychological and emotional stress
*Invasive surgery for the woman with physical side effects & the potential for complications
*Success rate varies greatly
*Cost
