Propecia Basics
What is Propecia?
One of the key causes of hair loss is a reduction in DHT in the scalp. Propecia hair loss treatments are designed to reduce DHT by inhibiting the shrinkage of hair follicles and blocking the formation of DHT. This process interrupts the development of male pattern hair loss and can also prompt the regrowth of visible hair. This hair loss treatment was designed for men only.
How does Propecia Work?
Propecia is a prescription drug designed to stop and reverse hair loss in balding men. It was originally called Proscar and was designed to treat and reduce men’s prostate conditions, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). One of the side effects of this drug happened to be regrowth of hair in balding men, and soon became a leading hair loss treatment under the trade name, Propecia. Propecia is a pill that works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into DHT. Reducing DHT in the scalp slows down the hair’s thinning process and in some cases, can reverse the effects of hair loss.
