I am a 46 year old female. Is there anything that can be done to clear up prominent, red veins on the white part of my eyes? The veins run from my pupil to the corner of each eye. They are very unattractive and make me look tired or on drugs! I have had this problem for many years. I also have dry eyes and wore hard contact lenses for about 15 years. Six years ago, I had RK surgery to correct my near-sightedness. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Answer:

These veins may be do to a lesion on your eye called a pterygium or pinguecula. You need to have them evaluated by an ophthalmologist to see what can be done. Sometimes over the counter decongestant containing eye drops (vasocon) call help the redness for short periods of time.
