Question:
Good morning! I am definitely a candidate for the Lasik operation: 48 years old, myope (5.5 & 3.5) , and 'steady'for the last approx. 30 years! I"ve been wearing contacts (hard ones) since age 14 and am now wondering how long before tests/operation I will not be allowed to wear them. I do have a pair of glasses, but they are not comfortable at all. Would very much appreciate your advice! Kindest regards, Naomi Koster Amstelveen, the Netherlands.
Answer:
Dear Naomi, You will need to remove the contacts for at least 4 weeks prior to the treatment. I suggest you start now- have your eyes checked for health and approximate prescription, then have them re-checked a few days prior to the treatment. Sometimes more than four weeks is required.(You could possibly wear soft lenses in the interim) Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center, CA

Question:
How can a Canadian Lasik Center charge only $999 for both eyes and California Centers charge up to $3,000?
Answer:
The quality of care is vastly different, and the laser costs are higher in the United States.

Question:
Hi, > I am an Endocrinologist in Brazil. I am high myopic ( -11) in each eye > and with a low corneal width. My ophmalmologist said that there is a > intra corneal ring that could be my solution. > Could you tell me more about this ? > Expecting your answer > Monica >
Answer:
Dear Monica, Intra-corneal rings are effective only up to maximum of -3.00 diopters. i think LASIK would still be your best choice. Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center

Question:
How much does laser eye surgery cost?
Answer:
Dear Kelly, At "The Lasik Center". the cost is $3600 for both eyes if you book before December 31st. After that, the cost goes back to the usual $4400. Sincerely, Michelle Olson, Lasik center Coordinator (800) 841-3717

Question:
I know that you all get this question ALL the time, but it is a very important one. Therefore, I am going to ask the same - am I a good candidate? Following is my information: I have had a pre-Lasik evaluation. I really do not understand all the information on my pre-evaluation form, but here it goes . . . Without correction of glasses or contacts, my vision is 20/600 in both eyes. My Rx for my left eye for WEARING is -500 sphere, -200 cyl.(minus) and 018 axis; MANIFEST is -4.50 sphere, -1.75 cyl.(minus), 025 axis; CYCLO REF is -4.50 sphere, -1.75 cyl.(minus) and 025 axis; K1 is 4390, K2 is 4576, and steep K axis is 100. By the way, my left eye is the dominant eye. In regards to my right eye, WEARING is -600 sphere, -100 cyl (minus), and 145 axis; MANIFEST is -5.75 sphere, -1.00 cyl(minus), and 140 axis; CYCLO REF is -5.50 sphere, -1.00 cyl(minus), and 140 axis; K1 is 4471, K2 is 4579, and steep K axis is 060. My pupil size is 5.5 mm in dim light and 4.0 mm in bright light. IOP @ 2:55 with left eye at 14 mmHG and right eye at 15 mmHg. If anyone can interpret this information in regards to whether I am a good candidate (or not) would be most appreciated!
Answer:
Dear Mary Beth, All of the information that you present is very positive for you as a candidate. Of course, a complete evaluation, including discussing the risks and benefits, isessential. Andrew Caster, MD

Question:
How old must you be in order to have Laser Vision Correction surgery? thanks
Answer:
You must be old enough that your eyes have stopped chaning. In most cases, this is in the late teens or early twenties. Some patients, however, keep changing throughout their twenties. Remember, LASIK will not stop your eyes from changing, so you want to wait until they have stopped changing. Andrew Caster, MD

Question:
At 67, am myopic & astigmatic. Will reading glasses be needed after corrective surgery?
Answer:
Dear Randall, The only way you would not require reading glasses would be to under-correct one eye slightly. This is called monovision and works well for most patients. Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center (800) 841-3717

Question:
What should I look for in a doctor for eye correction surgery? What should the price range be?
Answer:
First, choose a board-certified ophthalmologist that has a University affiliation, and is an acting clinical professor. Second, choose a surgeon that has been performing LASIK for at least a couple of years (2-3) and performs the "Down-Up" LASIK procedure. Price should not be the primary consideration in choosing a surgeon. Also, make sure your surgeon examines your eyes at least twice pre-operatively. I am a clinical professor at UCLA, and have been performing LASIK for many years. If you wish to schedule a complimentary consultation, please call Pam at 1-800-824-1073.

Question:
I have worn hard or gas-permeable contact lenses for 28 years, but I am now having to wear bifocal glasses along with the contacts. If I had LASIK surgery, would I still need reading glasses? Also, how long would I need to be without my contacts before surgery could be performed?
Answer:
Yes, everyone needs reading glasses after turning 40 you should be out of your contacts for at least two weeks
