Question:: My OB/GYN informed me that I have a gartner's cyst. How exactly are these cysts removed? Is there any danger involved in the removal?
Answer:: Gartner's Duct cyst is an embryological remnant that is generally removed vaginally under general anesthesia. Surgery always carries some risk. The risk of this procedure depends on the exact location of the cyst an whether it is near any vital structures (like blood vessels and the ureter). They usually are not. The Gartner's duct is not a vital structure and serves no function. It should be removed if it is bothering you.
