My son had RK surgery approximately 4 years ago, now he has developed severe bouts of dizziness, accompanied by nausea. could this be due to his surgery?
Answer:
Possibly, if his symptoms are related to eye strain. I recommend a complete eye examination as soon as possible. IF eye strain is ruled out as the cause, then a further medical work up would be indicated. To schedule an eye exam please call our office at 1-800-824-1073.
Question:
Is spontaneous rupture of the eye a complication of LASIK surgery?
Answer:
Dear Marcia, This is not a complication of Lasik.

Dr. Alexandra Chebil
I wear Acuvue soft contacts. Do I have to keep them out for a long time before I have the surgery? Also, do I have to go without eye makeup for a long time prior to the surgery?
Answer:
The soft contact lenses have to be stopped approximately one week prior to the surgery. Eye make up has to be discontinued the day of the laser and for 5 days afterwards. Please schedule a complimentary consultation for a review of all of the details and to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Call Pam to set up a time at 1-800-824-1073.
Sincerely,
John D. Zdral, M.D.
Question:
It is time to have my eye examination, But my question is that when I had my last eye exam. I was told I would probably have to have bifocals. My question is, If I have to have bifocals would I benifit by having corrective laser surgery. T hanks.
Answer:
Dear David, Laser surgery can correct both distance and reading problems if you choose to have "monovision"- one eye for distance the other for reading.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Chebil

5 weeks ago I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted (lower right side) and the Oral Surgon said he had to cut into the jaw to get the tooth out. I expected pain for a week or so, but 3 weeks later I still had pain. The Dr. gave an antibiotic Rx and took an Xray - no bone chips, etc. showed up. After the antibiotic regimen, the pain temporarily subsided, but a week later I still have pain like a "headache" in my lower jaw and jaw muscle (skin's not hot to the touch, but the lower jaw's ocassionally swollen). 2 weeks ago the Dr. said to expect pain and a very slow recovery @ my age - 52. I'm concerned that the "cure" of removing that wisdom tooth which was not causing pain has been worse than the problem - pushing on the root of adjacent molar. Q. Assuming that there is no infection, how long can I expect this pain (take max Ibuprophen daily) to persist? Thanks for your help.
Answer:
Sorry to hear about your problem. Unfortunately without having your original xray to review I can only tell you that it is not uncommon to have a prolonged recovery time at your age with the removal of a difficult wisdom tooth. From what you described it sounds as if your doctor has done all the right things by taking a xray and placing you on antibiotics for a short period of time. I am sorry that they did not explain the potential for delayed healing prior to your surgery. In many situations it may take up to 2 minths to obtain a complete recovery.
Good Luck
Question:
I have extreme dry eye in my right eye.. Two years ago I had an acoustic neuroma taken out of my middle ear (size of a cherry) It seemed after that my eye is contantly sore (dry)like sand in it and also my eye lid is somewhat slower /weaker just a shade slower than my left eye lid when blinking.. The surgery very slightly shrunk the right side of my face.. ever so slightly, just a little slower.. and a little stiff too..specially when I get tired. Could an eye ball shrink? What about "plugs" for tear ducts/ How can my eye be improved so I can read and do water color painting etc without a sore eye in a few minutes?? I'm looking for answers?
Answer:
I believe punctal plugs would be the best solution for your dry eye problem. These are small plugs that are inserted into the puncta, and keep what tears you have in your eyes longer, resulting in a longer duration of retained moisture over the surface of the cornea.

Question:
My wife, 30 years of age, has recently been diagnosed with cataract. She is not diabetic and never used steroids. She has been healthy all her life. My question is how effective is Intra occular lens surgery in restoring normal vision. Also how long do these lenses last? thanks for your reply in advance.
Answer:
Small incisiion cataract surgery is very successful at restoring vision. The lens implant that is used is permanent and will never degrade. The healing is very rapid and your wife should expect excellent vision afterwards. For an evaluation in the office please call 714-879-7372. Thank you.

Question:
I wear soft contact lenses, the left one being a toric lens due to what I have been told is "internal" astigmatism. I am very nearsighted in both eyes. In the past, I have been told that I am not a candidate for laser vision correction. Has the procedure advanced to the point where I am a potential patient? I am also led to believe that health insurance plans don't consider this necessary surgery and therefore traditionally don't cover any part of the procedure. So could you give me a "ballpark" estimate of the cost for both eyes, please? Thanks.
Answer:
Thank you for your email. It sounds like you may be treatable. Most insurance companies don't cover the cost which runs around $4400 for both eyes.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Chebil

I have always wanted to be a pilot but my poor vision has kept me from going after that dream. Very recently the military has changed their poilicy regarding eye surgery. My recruiter told me that they are now allowing people who have had PRK surgery to enrole in the pilot program. He did not have many details regarding this policy change. Do you know what the new rules are? He tells me I would have to wait a year following the proceedure to enrole. What if my vision does not end up 20/20 but after surgery is now correctable to 20/20. Would that still aloow me to fly? I know there are several types of surgery, which do the military accept? Are others currently being considered?
Answer:
Dear Matthew, I am sorry but I am not aware of current regulations regarding pilots license and vision correction. I suggest you ask the office which takes the applications.

Hello,
I am 35 years old. I have myopia and astigmatism. The power in each eye is more than -5. Am I an eligible candidate for lasik. I am not diabetic, no bp.
How long is the surgery. What is the cost of the surgery. Can u recommend a good doctor who does lasik.
Is lasik covered under any kind of insurance ? If so, can you give the name ?
Answer:
Hi Padma, Thank you for your email. Your eye prescription sounds treatable. The treatment lasts only a few minutes and costs $4400 for both eyes. Most insurances do not cover the cost. I perform lasik with excellent results. You could call the office to set up an appointment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Chebil
I wear Acuvue extended wear lense;-8.0 in one eye and -8.5 in my dominant eye.Is Lasix a viable option to consider? What percentage of people with my degree of nearsightedness can expect 20/20 vision after lasix? What is the probability that I would continue to need glasses or contacts to correct my nearsighted vision after surgery?
Thanks
Answer:
Your prescription is certainly treatable. 98% of patients I have treated have obtained 20/20 vision with no corrective lenses.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Chebil
