Question:
Is there a treatment (like the laser or reshaping method) for both myopia and presbyopia available? If not, when will it be available and who is working on it?
Answer:
The LASIK procedure can be done to achieve monovision, which allows you to see distance and near without glasses. This is really the best (and only) solution at the present time. To review this further, I would encourage you to schedule a complimentary consultation by calling Pam, our laser vision coordinator, at 1-800-824-1073.

Question:
I was diagnosed with having thin retinas and underwent surgery on both eyes to close numerous holes. I have a very high prescription and was told that this condition is common with people with such a strong prescription. I have been problem free for the last 7 or 8 year since surgery. I would like to know how this condition might effect my ability to receive lasik surgery.
Answer:
LASIK should have no effect on the retina, as the procedure is done on the surface of the cornea. Before the procedure, I would have a retina specialist do a screening, since you have had previous surgery, but after obtaining a clearance, there would be no other problems. Virtually all patients we treat are near-sighted, and therefore have longer eyes and "thinner" retinas. If you would like to schedule a complimentary consultation, please call Pam, our laser vision coordinator, at 1-800-824-1073.

Question:
Are there anesthetics given during the surgery or are you "awake" during the surgery?
Answer:
You are awake during the LASIK procedure. The only anesthetics used are topical eye drops which completely numb the eye. You will not fee any discomfort.

Question:
I was told that I could get laser correction done free if it is used on the internet. True/
Answer:
Dear Russell, I am not aware of any arrangements with regards to advertising in exchange for surgery. I would suggest contacting other web sites directly. Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil, M.D. The Lasik Center, Irvine California (800) 841-3717

Question:
I plan to get laser surgery, as i my eyesight is pretty bad. What is the minimum age that you can have it? Also, does it help lazy eye at all??? Thanks!!!!
Answer:
Dear Emily, I usually do Lasik only if you are at least 18 years old. It does not help a lazy eye (anymore than glasses can). Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center, Irvine California (800) 841-3717

Question:
1. How safe is lasik? 2. Is it permanent?
Answer:
Dear Alex, Lasik is both safe and permanent. For more information see my web page at "lalasik.com" Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center, Irvine California (88) 841-3717

Question:
As an alternative to Lasik becuase of the cost, I would like to ask about contact lense implant, cost and other info. I live in Westchester County NY. Thank you
Answer:
Dear Alex, The implantable contact lens will most likely cost at least as much as Lasik-It may cost more, and long term results have not been proven as yet. My choice is still lasik, both for cost and safety. Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil, Irvine California (800) 841-3717

Question:
I have been quoated the fee of 4300.00 for lasiks vision correction, are the fees for this surgery by reputable doctors all the same? Or is it worth my wild to get quotes from doctors in other areas where I have family also living?
Answer:
Thank you for your email. $4300 is the average price for Lasik. Some centers will charge more, and others less- in which case some of your care costs may not be included. The best referral is happy past-patients. Sincerely, Dr. Alexandra Chebil The Lasik Center

Question:
1)What is the cost? 2)How long does this take? For each eye. 3)What if you have stigatisum to? 4)what are the risks?
Answer:
Dear Mark, Lasik costs $4400 for both eyes. It takes about three minutes per eye. Astigmatism is corrected at the same time. There are very few serious risks. Sincerely. Dr. Alexandra Chebil The Lasik Center

Question:
I am a premed student at the University of Utah and I want to go into lasik surgury, I was wondering what helped you most in your entering med school and how many years after med school did it take to specialize?
Answer:
Dear Brett, Thank you for your email. The training course for ophthalmology is four years after medical school. There is no university training for lasik (to my knowledge), but courses are given by the laser manufacturers (i.e. VISX or Chiron). Best of Luck Alexandra Chebil M.D. The Lasik Center

Question:
I am considering lasik surgery. I tend to be fairly nervous. Will this be hard for me ?
Answer:
It is normal to be a little nervous before eye surgery. We provide a mild sedative right before the procedure which makes you completely comfortable. In the hands of an experienced surgeon, you should have no problems. If you would like to schedule a complimentary consultation, call Pam, our laser vision coordinator at 1-800-824-1073. Sincerely, John Zdral, M.D.

Question:
I had lasik sugery about 3 weeks ago. My prescription was about -3.25 (l) -3.50(R). I experience now poor vision under very dim lights, driving at night can be very trying. I was wondering if this is permanant or improves over a period of time. Do know why this occurs? thanks
Answer:
This should be a condition that improves over time, but will also depend on your pupil size in dim lighting conditions.
