Hello. I broke my big toe about 15 years ago and the first joint (i.e, closest to the tip/toe nail) doesn't bend very well (hardly at all). It doesn't really hurt, but it has affected the way that I walk.
I was wondering if there is a way to make it bend again? Surgery? Therapy? Injecting it with novacaine and bend it by hand?! Any suggestions about getting it to bend (or leaving well enough alone) would be appreciated.
Thanks!

An orthopedist or podiatrist would best be able to answer this question.
Question:
any new improvements on lasek surgery? I was told 4 yrs ago that my eyes were to conical for surgery and that I have macular degeneration. I have worn glasses and contact lenses since I was 6 yrs. I'm now 43.
Answer:
Dear Lisa,
As you probably know, laser vision correctioncan only improve the "optics" of your eyes. So if your vision is still bad because of macular degeneration laser cannot help. We can now correct for astigmatism, which is the "conical shape" of your eyes. I suggest a re-evaluation to see if you can be treated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Chebil M.D.

Question:
I have had the necessary tests for the Lasik procedure. My eyes checked out just fine and was told that I was a prime candidate for the surgery. The Doctor said that because I already have problems with night glare, she felt I shouldn't have the surgery. Yet, I know of others with night glare problems that have had the procedure. Should I seek a second opinion?
Answer:
Dear Mary Jo,
I would recommend a second opinion. The problem of night glare after Lasik is very low.

Alexandar Chebil M.D.

Question:
For a research paper in my college class I have decided to view breast implants. This report will not be published. I was interested in asking some questions on the clients usual experiences. I was wondering if the implants made the women feel better about themselves. What reasons do women usually give for getting breast implants? How does it affect the women emotionally after they have the surgery? Does it affect their self esteem? I would greatly appreciate you getting back to me on the subject as soon as possible. Thank you, Kate
Answer:
yOU REQUEST A LONG ANSWER. i RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHECK OUR SOCIETY WEBSITE FOR THE ANSWERS TO MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS @WWW.PLASTICSURGERY.ORG. I can tell you that almost all women find not only emotional but cosmetic fulfillment with the surgery. Otherwise they would not have undergone the procedure. Thanks for your interest.
Question:
My mother had laser surgery about 6 months ago to fix a corneal abrasion. However her eye will still tear and she is constantly in pain. The eye will not heal and she patches the eye everytime it tears but still having a lot of problems. What else can she do? Does she need to have surgery again?
Answer:
Often times the area treated does not include all of the affected area. She may need additional treatment.
Question:
My husband was born with underdeveloped optic nerves. This causes him to have severe nystagmus. His vision is 20/80 and can not obtain his drivers license this year. Is there a surgery or other medical way to improve his vision besides corrective lens?
Answer:
There is no medical treatment since his eyes never developed completely, based on the history. If his vision has decreased, however, then something may have changed recently and a complete eye examination is in order.

Question:
I am far sighted. I only wear glasses to read and when on the computer. Would I be a candidate for surgery to correct this vision problem?
Answer:
Dear Nancy, In response to your question, I would need to check your eyes to determine if you are treatable. It is not as easy to tell as near-sightedness.
Sincerely,

Question:
Due to an auto accident, my 10 year old silicone breast implants have ruptured (as per MRI). Surgery to remove capsule and replace original implants with saline implants is scheduled. Would smooth or textured implants be best and why? Original ones were smooth surface.
Answer:
There is considerable controversy as to whether smooth or textured implants are better. It would be best to discuss the differences with the doctor who will be performing your surgery.
Question:

Question:
I was diagnosed with having thin retinas and underwent surgery on both eyes to close numerous holes. I have a very high prescription and was told that this condition is common with people with such a strong prescription. I have been problem free for the last 7 or 8 year since surgery. I would like to know how this condition might effect my ability to receive lasik surgery.
Answer:
LASIK should have no effect on the retina, as the procedure is done on the surface of the cornea. Before the procedure, I would have a retina specialist do a screening, since you have had previous surgery, but after obtaining a clearance, there would be no other problems. Virtually all patients we treat are near-sighted, and therefore have longer eyes and "thinner" retinas. If you would like to schedule a complimentary consultation, please call Pam, our laser vision coordinator, at 1-800-824-1073.
Question:
I was told that I could get laser correction done free if it is used on the internet. True/
Answer:
Dear Russell, I am not aware of any arrangements with regards to advertising in exchange for surgery. I would suggest contacting other web sites directly.
Sincerely,
