My husband and I are trying to concieve a baby. We have been trying for the last 5yrs. and we have not been successful.I've had my tubes checked and i did have a blockage which was fixed at the time of the surgery. I also had a Laparascopy(I'm not quite sure how to spell it)to check all my female organs. The doctor says everything was fine.We would like to know what else can we do?We can not afford anything else.I have insurance that will cover some but not all the procedures.
Answer:
Dear Sharon
You need to have invitro (IVF)since the surgery did not help. The only good program I know of is in Charleston (Southeastern Fertility).
Good luck

Question:
For the past month and a half I have not gotten my mense. I did have an etopic pregnacy which resulted in surgery in which I lost my tube and the baby. I am very worried about having one again sinse I nearly lost my life. My obgyn told me that it must be my weight because i have now gained at least over 50 pounds. I have been exercising alot in the past few weeks and did lose 11 pounds. My question is should I listen to my Docor and risk my life or should I demand an ultrasound. She did take a blood test which came out negative and I also took 3 at home pregnancy test which also came out negative. Please answer me as quickly as you can for I might not have much time. I will leave my cycle date of my last cycle as july 14-july 18. Thank you.
Answer:
Your weight has nothing to do with why you had an ectopic. Most of these cases are due to a prior infection that may have damaged your tubes. However, your weight may be a factor why you have not had a period, but you need to have your thyroid tested.
It is not unusual not to have a period for about 6 weeks after the surgery, but you need to have something called Provera to get a period if u do not get one on your own soon.
Pls discuss all these issues with your doc.
Good luck

Question:
I was wondering, how to get rid of my double chin? How long do they put you out for surgery? What are the risks? And how much does it cost? How long does it last. Can you exercise your chin and get the same results?
Answer:
Dear Susan,
The treatment depends upon what the problem is and the condition of your skin. If there is a lot of skin excess, a neck lift is necessary which is an operation which takes at least 3 hours and for which the recouperation is about two weeks. If liposuction is required, the operation may just take an hour and the recovery period is much less. Sometimes, an abbreviated combination of both procedures can be the best choice. Exercise will not help.
HI, i have very small breasts and after having my son they have shrunk even more i am only 18 and wondering if there are any plastic surgeons willing to do surgery on someone my age. the only good thing is that i never plan on having any more children. also i was wondering if you have to pay in full or if there are payment options available?
Answer:
Dear Jami,
Certainly many surgeons would operate on you and payment plans could likely be arranged - especially if you already have children and are essentially living as an adult.
I am scheduled for a breast augmentation surgery in one week. My surgeon has given me several choices of incision sites--Under the breast, axilla, nipple, or unbilical region. I am very familiar with the under the breast approach, but not so familiar with the navel/umbilical approach. The staff at the surgeon's office really are pushing for the umbilical approach where there will be no scarring in the breast area, but I am hesistant as I know very little about this procedure. Are you familiar with this approach? Do you think that this procedure is easier to rehab from? Do you think that the implants will be put in with the accuracy as they can be with the slit under the breast?
Answer:
Dear Christy,
Not only is it more difficult to make an even pocket for the implant but, the implant manufacturers (last time I checked) will not cover the implants for problems such as leakage if they are placed through the umbilical approach. Most of us prefer a site on or near the breast.
I was interested in having Breast lift surgery.I do not wish to be "knocked-out" could that still be done and what is the recovery time?
Answer:
Dear Tersesa,
There is very littly difference, these days between general anesthetic and intravenous sedation other than control of the airway (meaning these days that mask is used inside the mouth in order to safely deliver your body oxygen). You usually still breathe on your own even with general anesthetic. I would suggest that you leave the decision to a competent anesthesiologist who is providing your care. Most of our patients have found very little difference between simply not remembering the surgery and being "knocked out".
I am a 46 year old female. Is there anything that can be done to clear up prominent, red veins on the white part of my eyes? The veins run from my pupil to the corner of each eye. They are very unattractive and make me look tired or on drugs! I have had this problem for many years. I also have dry eyes and wore hard contact lenses for about 15 years. Six years ago, I had RK surgery to correct my near-sightedness. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
Answer:
These veins may be do to a lesion on your eye called a pterygium or pinguecula. You need to have them evaluated by an ophthalmologist to see what can be done. Sometimes over the counter decongestant containing eye drops (vasocon) call help the redness for short periods of time.
Question:
yes I have another question. I am having trouble finding a doctor could you help me in that area? I live in the centeral part of kansas. Can you give me any kinda of help as to locating a doctor to get my surgery done for my eyes?
Answer:
I would suggest thay you contact a major hospital near your area and ask to speak to the head of the plastic surgery department. If he or she does not perform this type of surgery themselves, they will be happy to refer you to a competent craniofacial surgeon.
I have had light facial hair for many years and have spent a great deal of time and money on electrolysis. Most of it has been very successful but I still continue to have facial hair on my jawbone, chin and throat. I tweeze daily but it still looks terrible. Would laser surgery permanently remove this and is there swelling or redness and for how long? Please help me.
Answer:
By light do you mean light colored or light in density? Light colored hair does poorly with lasers, not that it is impossible but it isn't ideal. If the hair is darker than your skin tone than it will be possible. The thinner and lighter colored the hairs, the more difficult a good result from laser will be. Laser hair removal when performed properly results in minimal redness of a few hours, if that. You should be able to apply makeup immediately after. I would recommend you also look into Vaniqa, a new prescription cream which retards hair growth.
I was born with a small upper jaw which makes it impossible to see my upper teeth and my mouth caves in when I smile. People also have a hard time understanding me which I am very self conscious about talking to people. I have seen a maxillofacial surgeon some years ago who informed me I needed to get braces first before he could do anything. I had braces when I was a teenager and since then a couple of teeth have gotten alittle crooked but nothing real bad. My question is: Are there jaw reconstructions done without out braces on. The reason is , My insurance will help me with my surgery but they cover 0 on othodontist. I am tired of not being able to smile or laugh at a joke in front of people. Thank you for any help you can provide me with. Sincerely Melissa
Answer:
The standard of care tends to dictate that braces should be involved prior to surgery but I would base that on a case to case basis. Talk with your surgeon.
Question:
I,m 33years oldwomen. I went though artifical semination this month as we have been trying for a baby for a long time. Doctor suspect that I might have endometrosis and do a laproscopy surgery afer two or three failed attempt of artifical semination. Please give me some suggestion as I,m desperate to have a baby. He has put me on Prometrium (progesterone) capsules from my cycle day 22. My Question is should I be taking this medicine before knowing I'm pregnant or not? Second Is it safe to take this medicine? Please advise me is his line of treatment is right or should he be doing surgery and dice test first and then do the artifical semination?
Answer:
Yes, this medication is extremely safe, so do not worry.
You need to ask your doc what is the plan if this does not work. IVF should be the next step.
Good luck

Question:
Hi. I have a problem with one of my nipples. It is only partly there and looks as if it has just rotted off. I am 16 and don't remember when it got like this I only know it's been like that for about 5 yrs. I went to a doctor a couple of years ago but she said just to wait and see if it grows back which it hasn't and I am positive it won't on it's own. I was wondering if you know of anything I can do for it or if there is any kind of surgery that can correct it. I am in Ottawa, Canada. Please respond. Tks again, Brittany
Answer:
Dear Brittany,
I would suggest that you visit with a plastic surgeon in Ottawa ( I think that Dr. Carlsen is still there) and see if you have a retracted nipple. It is very important to check to see if there is any reason for the nipple to retract. If there is no reason and it is just because of breast development, it can be readily corrected. I just repaired an inverted nipple three days ago.
