Inverted Nipple Repair Questions and Answers

Question:

Hi. I have a problem with one of my nipples. It is only partly there and looks as if it has just rotted off. I am 16 and don't remember when it got like this I only know it's been like that for about 5 yrs. I went to a doctor a couple of years ago but she said just to wait and see if it grows back which it hasn't and I am positive it won't on it's own. I was wondering if you know of anything I can do for it or if there is any kind of surgery that can correct it. I am in Ottawa, Canada. Please respond. Tks again, Brittany

Dear Brittany, I would suggest that you visit with a plastic surgeon in Ottawa ( I think that Dr. Carlsen is still there) and see if you have a retracted nipple. It is very important to check to see if there is any reason for the nipple to retract. If there is no reason and it is just because of breast development, it can be readily corrected. I just repaired an inverted nipple three days ago.

Question:

Can plastic surgery be performed to correct and inverted nipple? I am a 40 year old female.

Answer:

Correcting inverted nipples is a very commonly performed procedure with excellent results. If the inversion is recent, I would certainly have a breast examination by a competent physician to rule out any concerns over what is causing the inversion.

Question:

Hi!I have a little problem thats ruining my sex life. My nipples don't have the little ball part in the middle-they're just straight across. The one on the right side doesn't even stick out-it goes inward. Anyways I was just wondering if that was normal,and if there was anything that could be done about it and if plastic surgery was an option how much do you think it would cost to get it corrected. Answer:

Dear Richelle, You have inverted nipples. This is a fairly common problem. It can interfere with sexual pleasure as well as breast feeding. Any competent plastic surgeon should be able to help you with your problem. If your nipples were previously normal and only recently became inverted, you should see someone immediately, it can be an early sign of breast cancer. I trust that this is not the case and that it has been a long-standing problem. The correction will require a surgery (or sometimes two), it can be tricky to get the nipples to evert and to do so maintaining sensitivity. Again, I would suggest that you visit a qualified plastic surgeon in your area. Hope this helps.
