Question:
After having breast implants, can I still breast feed?
Answer:
Dear Jessica, The answer is it depends. Over 90% of women with breast implants either placed above or below the muscle can breast feed. Some ducts may be interrrupted in the procedure itself but, usually, many more are present. Hope this helps.

Question:
I am considering breast augmentation and wanted to know if there is a doctor in the Atlanta GA area that has heard of and performs a procedure called Trans -Auxillery...where the implant is placed under the pectoral muscle in the chest. This is the procedure I am interested in having and wanted a listing of doctors in the area that have perfected and perform this technique. Any assistance/informationis greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Answer:
Breast Augmentation can be performed a variety of different ways. One of them is the trans-axillary approach that you discuss. It may not be the optimal operative approach for you. It would be a good idea to find a good qualified Plastic Surgeon and discuss the operation that you want and the approach that you want. He/she may agree or disagree with you. Unfortunately, I do not know many plastic surgeons in that region. Check out the plasticsurgery.org website and select one that is in your area. Good luck. Maybe you would want to travel to Boca Raton Florida and have the operation performed by me! Good luck to you! JRBerman drb@drberman.com

Question:
Once I've had breast implants put in, will I ever have to replace them again? Can I just get them and never replace them? Why would anyone ever need to replace them?
Answer 1:
You probably will never need to replace the breast implants once placed. The manufacturers want us to inform our public that in the course of their lifetime there is a probability that the implants may need to be replaced in a person's lifetime. If the implants rupture or fail, then the implants need to be replaced.
Answer 2:
Breast implants are guaranteed by the manufacturers against rupture for life. Both of the major implant companies will replace them free of charge but you will have to cover the cost and inconvenience of the surgery. They contribute a small sum towards this cost as well. The main reason for change of implants is to either change the size or, after many years, sagging of the breasts does occur and, at the time of a breast lift procedure, the implants would likely be changed to a different size. The implants still have a problem with contracture (or hardening of the breast with resultant shape changes). Textured implants have helped this problem but it is still very common. Implants would be changed at the time of capsulectomy surgery to make the breasts soft again. New implants which have a more natural feel and look are also on the horizon. Some women may wish to change to this newer type for a more natural feel and look compared to the currently available saline-filled implants. I hope this helps explain why implants are often changed during the patient's lifetime.

Question:
Are those so called breast enhancer pill really effective? and if you have implants what are the effects or is there any?
Answer:
Breast enhancer pills are generally very low levels of hormone which have been found ineffective for breast growth. There are many effects and possible complications from having breasts implants, the most common of which is the development of firm breasts over time and the need for futrther operations. I would suggest that you visit with a qualified plastic surgeon to discuss if the possible risks are overshadowed by the benefits of breast augmentation surgery - they are for many women.

Question:
Do herbal breast enlargement tablets, creams or estrogens really make breast bigger?
Answer:
No, not at all. If these worked, we would much prefer them to the use of implants. Hope this helps.

Question:
How do I find a plastic surgeon in CT (or anywhere) who specializes in reconstruction of a breast that has been radiated, reconstructed with an implant after mastectomy. Need a better result.
Answer:
Contact www.plasticsurgery.org. This is the national plastic surgery society and will list board certified plastic surgeons in your area with listings of the types of procedures that they do. Good luck. Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
What are the side effects or drawbacks of breast implants? Can a woman still breast feed?
Answer:
The major drawback is capsular contraction or hardening around the implant. There can be assymetry. There is a scar, though usually that is negligible. The implant can rupture and have to be replaced. There can be some decrease in sensation in the nipple-areola complex. You can still breast feed. Good luck Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
I am interested in breast implants. Before preganancy, I was a a 34C. Now I am a 32C, but my breasts just dont seem full. They do not sag, but are not firm. Is there a procedure that can be done to restore firmness and fullness without making me huge?
Answer:
From what you have described, it sounds like a modest-sized breast implant may restore some of your breast firmness and fullness - especially since you indicate that your breasts don't sag. Another method to restore firmness without placing implants is to do a mastopexy, but that procedure leaves significantly more visible scars than does a breast augmentation.

Question:
I myself do not have Breast Cancer, but I have a family history of it, should I not get Breast implants?
Answer:
You can certainly have breast implants placed. They are safe and do not cause breast cancer. You need to continue to do the same as all women, get mammograms, self breast exam daily, and frequent visits to your ob/gyn or family practice or internal medicine doctor. We would be happy to see you in our office. Call and speak to Debbie at 561-495-2705. Thanks for your interest.

Question:
i have a consultation with a surgeon on monday but i have been told that with a saline implant and if i got pregnant again i would sag real bad?? is this true??? i really need to know
Answer:
If your breasts are going to sag after pregnancy, they're going to sag. The implant will have nothing to do with that. Nor will the type of implant. Good luck Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
For a research paper in my college class I have decided to view breast implants. This report will not be published. I was interested in asking some questions on the clients usual experiences. I was wondering if the implants made the women feel better about themselves. What reasons do women usually give for getting breast implants? How does it affect the women emotionally after they have the surgery? Does it affect their self esteem? I would greatly appreciate you getting back to me on the subject as soon as possible. Thank you, Kate
Answer:
yOU REQUEST A LONG ANSWER. i RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHECK OUR SOCIETY WEBSITE FOR THE ANSWERS TO MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS @WWW.PLASTICSURGERY.ORG. I can tell you that almost all women find not only emotional but cosmetic fulfillment with the surgery. Otherwise they would not have undergone the procedure. Thanks for your interest.
