Question:
Due to an auto accident, my 10 year old silicone breast implants have ruptured (as per MRI). Surgery to remove capsule and replace original implants with saline implants is scheduled. Would smooth or textured implants be best and why? Original ones were smooth surface.
Answer:
There is considerable controversy as to whether smooth or textured implants are better. It would be best to discuss the differences with the doctor who will be performing your surgery.

Question:
My sister went for a breast enlargment consultation and the dr gave her the choice between the implants being placed on top or under the muscle. What is better, what does she need to know to make this decision? thanks
Answer:
Generally, saline-filled implants in patients who have A or small B breasts are usually best placed under the muscle. The disadvantage is that there is more pain and a bit longer recovery time when the implant is placed under the muscle. Sometimes contraction of the muscle will cause the appearance of the breast to be deformed.

Question:
I am considering breast augmentation and I am not sure which shape of implant I want the anatomical(contoured) or the round. I am not sure if one is better than the other. If you could give your opinion I would appreciate it. Thanks Theresa
Answer:
It is a good question. It is one that you probably should pose to the plastic surgeon you want to do your surgery. Depending on his answer might help you determine whether you want him or her to perform the surgery.

Question:
i'm thinking of geting breast implant for my wife and were looking for the safest product avilible???
Answer:
Saline are the only implants allowed by the FDA

Question:
Great web site. I must say that it is highly informative and very resourceful. Maybe you can help me out with a medical/legal issue that was among debate between me and a girl last evening. Is a girl under the age of 18 able to get breast implants? Can she do this without the parents permission? Maybe she needs written consent? If you know the answer, or can even point me in the correct direction, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you know the source of your answer, please include that as well. Thanks again for everytihng! Thank you in advance for your prompt response. Kindest Regards Craig
Answer:
A minor must always have the consent of a parent or guardian for any medical treatment including surgery. Hope this is helpful Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
Hello. I would like to know the best place of insicion for a breast augmentation, which limits the risks of a capsule contracture and loss of sensation in the nipples.
Answer:
Placement of the incision does not effect capsular contracture. Putting the implant under the muscle will reduce the likelihood of capsular contracture. An incision around the areoa is most likely to interfere with nipple sensation; putting the implant behind the muscle is also less likely to interfere with nipple sensation. Good luck Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
I was wondering how much it would cost for breast implant removal. They are saline and placed under the muscle. I have only had them 2 months and I dont like them at all. I would also like to know what the breast would look like after removal and how long recovery would be. Thanks.
Answer:
The surgical fee for removing the implants would probably be about $1000. There would also be fees for use of an operating room and for anesthesia. Your best bet, in terms of price, would probably be to go back to your original surgeon. If you don't like the way your breast look now, there may be alternatives other than removing the implants. You should discuss that with your doctor. After the implants are removed your breasts should look as they did before the implants were put in. The recovery is minimal--much less discomfort than when the implants were put in. Good luck, Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
Which method provides a more natural looking breast in a breast augmentation? Placing the implant subglandular or submuscular. Why? Thanks.
Answer:
I don't think it makes a difference. The rippling that is sometimes seen in aline-filled implants may be less noticeable, especially in thin patients, if the implant is placed submuscularly. The tow major advantages to placing implants submuscularly is that the incidence of capsular contraction is less and mammograms are sometimes easier to read. Hope this is helpful. Carmen Paradis M.D.

Question:
With breast augmentation, can you still breast feed a baby when you become pregnant?
Answer:
Assuming that your breast milk would adequately feed an infant before breast augmentation, you should be able to breast feed if the incision to place the implant is made in the fold beneath the breast or in the armpit. There are other factors which might affect your ability to breast-feed. Therefore, you should have a thorough evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon.

Question:
I am a 44 year old female, cup size D (38). Gravity has taken affect. Would reduction with implants be helpful to regain youthful appearance again or just reduction?
Answer:
Breast reduction surgery would probably achieve the results your looking for. There is the possibility a breast lift, Mastopexy, would also be beneficial. A consultation with a plastic surgeon can provide you with your options

Question:
I breast fed my daughter, and I am now wanting to get breast implants. I have read all types of material and went to a few consultations. Can you please tell me how to get financing, or a way that I could have them done at minimal cost? Thank-you for your time.
Answer:
It depends on which doctor you see. We offer financing through different organizations. You should not be so cost conscious. Remember cheaper is not always better. You also get what you pay for. Check the credentials, experience, and reputation of the surgeon performing the surgery. This is an operation on you. Your health.
