Case: 12119 Category: Radiance Injections Age: 57 Gender: Male Skin Tone: Medium Description: This very nice patient was self conscious about the appearance of his smile lines. He has a very deep left smile line (nasolabial fold) that made him look angry or appear that he was sneering or smelling something bad. He desired an improvement in his smile lines. He asked me if a mini-facelift or cheeklift would give him a more permanent improvement of his smile lines instead of an injectable filler. I explained that any facelifting procedure would probably only give him a 10-20% improvement in his smile lines, because the surgical work is not directly on the smile lines but in actually several inches away, any initially improvement that he demonstrated by pulling the skin upwards and backwards would come back within a couple of weeks. A facelift for smile line improvement would be a lot of surgery for minimal improvement in that area. Instead, we discussed the latest in injectables. He did not want Restylane because it did not last very long. He did not want Fat transfer because he was still working and did not have time for recovery. At the time this was done, Artefill and Surgiwire was not FDA approved yet, so we went with Radiesse injections, mostly into the Left fold. Although the photo was taken 2 weeks after the procedure, it has been 11 months since the Radiesse injection and he still does not feel that he needs any touch-ups. |

Details: Frontal View- Before and 2 weeks After the procedure. Swelling has resolved. The most important benefit of injectable fillers are that they are WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). With Fat transfer, 50% or less of the fat will survive, so injecting Fat requires doubling the amount of filler anticipated in order to get the result desired. Fat transfer may last longer, but the recovery and time for the fat to be absorbed is variable and can take weeks to months to get the desired result. | |
