Eye Lid Lift Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Male
Elderly man with gross excess skin in the upper and lower eyelids. The skin in the lower lids hangs down to the cheek. In older patients much of the spring in the lower eyelid has been lost due to loss of elasticity. Even minimal tension on the lower eyelid can result in a pulled down lid and a startled appearance with excessive tearing of the eye. This is called ectropion. In the standard lower eyelid procedure the incision is made just below the eyelashes and the excess eyelid skin is pulled up and cut off. If this were done in this patient there would be a high risk of a pulled down lid. Therefore Dr. Samuel modified the procedure and cut out the excess skin in the lower lid directly, placing the scar in a natural crease. The scar is virtually inconscpicuous althoug the 'after' picture is only 4 days following surgery.
