Dr. Bellin (New York Plastic Surgeon) has developed a highly accurate method of doing liposuction under local anesthesia so that the patient can stand up several times during the procedure and be evaluated. Obviously, one cannot stand up under general anesthesia. When fat is removed, the skin contracts immediately, thus he can make judgments as to how much more to remove and whether the area looks smooth.
