My name is Liz and I am a sixty-one year old woman who is excited about my life and all that is to come in the future. This has not always been the case, as the last sixteen months have brought about many changes. I believe we are all on a journey and our lives reflect the sum of all our many experiences.
I first heard about Dr. Quebbemann and his practice two years ago from my grown daughter, who against my advice, had elected to undergo gastric bypass surgery in July of 2006. I was a mother...
Jennifer's weight gain accumulated later in life, after college. By her late 20s, she carried 269 pounds on her 5'4" frame. She rarely exercised and found that over time, even climbing the stairs was difficult. The weight also interfered with her sleep habits, causing sleep apnea. Even worse than these physical limitations, she says, was the treatment she received by total strangers.

After speaking with the surgical weight loss experts at The N.E.W. Program at Community Hospital of Long Beach and completing his consultation with Dr. Quebbemann and his medical team, George scheduled his pre-operative testing. In November 2007, George underwent gastric bypass surgery at Community Hospital of Long Beach due to the large volume of weight he had to lose. With a new life, George is now 205+ pounds lighter and Editor in Chief of his magazine!
I have always been the chubby girl, the sweet spirit. Throughout my life I have tried multiple kinds of weight loss programs. I had my surgery on January 17, 2005. I quickly lost 96 lbs in five months. I suddenly discovered a new person that I decided I liked. She was thinner, she was confident, she was kind and accepting, and she was beautiful. And I was her! Weight is still a battle, but at least now I have a handle on it. I know I can conquer the battle and I will.
I suffered from over half of the co-morbidities related to obesity including; high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, acid reflux and heart disease. The first time I met with Dr. Richards, it was all I could do to get from the parking lot to the doctor's office. If it hadnt been for Dr. Richards and her confidence in her ability to do this, I dont think I would have ever found a surgeon to do it. I now go by the simple motto: I eat to live, instead of living to eat.
