Sleeve Gastrectomy

The upper and outer most stretchable portion of the stomach is removed laparoscopically, thereby decreasing the capacity of the stomach from a quart to 2 - 4 ounces. Weight loss is achieved by restricting the quantity of food consumed and also by significantly reducing the production of the appetite hormone (ghrelin) in the stomach. There is no rerouting of the intestines.

It is ideal for patients that travel a lot, live out of the area or busy professionals. It is also ideal for patients that are averse to having a foreign body. It is an excellent option for patients with inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s or those on immuno-suppression or other intestinal conditions including patients with intestinal adhesions from prior abdominal surgeries.

Adjustable Gastric Band Surgery

Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB or Lap Band) is an inflatable device placed around the top of the stomach to create a small (less than a third of an ounce) pouch. This band is connected by thin tubing to an access port underneath the skin. The band is adjusted by inflating or deflating it with saline through this port. The small pouch created by the inflated band reduces the stomach’s capacity, thereby restricting the amount of food one can eat. The band also causes one to feel full faster and stay full longer.

Proximal Gastric Bypass (Proximal Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass)

Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass is a combination restrictive and mal-absorptive operation. In Proximal Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass a small stomach pouch is created to restrict the amount of food that can be consumed and the intestine is rerouted so that the food stream does not go into the stomach past the pouch or upper intestine. With a smaller stomach pouch one feels full sooner and eats less and bypassing a part of the small intestine leads to the body absorbing fewer calories.

Resectional Proximal Gastric Bypass

This is a specialized type of proximal gastric bypass, where the bypassed stomach is removed. This may be necessary in patients whose stomach is diseased.

Medial Gastric Bypass (Medial Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass)

Medial Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a more mal-absorptive type of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass where roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of the small intestinal length is bypassed. The pouch is similar to the one in the Proximal Gastric Bypass. It works by not only inducing a sense of fullness or satiety with small amounts of food but also by significantly reducing calorie absorption.

Duodenal switch

This operation enables patients to eat a near normal meal. In this surgery a thin vertical sleeve of stomach is created. The operation works primarily by decreasing calorie absorption by bypassing roughly two-thirds to three-fourths of the upper small intestinal length.

Revision Surgery

Revision of prior weight loss surgeries can be done depending on the type of initial bariatric surgery.

Words cannot fully describe my feelings. I am happier than I have ever been. My only regret is that I didn't do it much sooner. Dr. Srikanth changed my life forever. My husband and I are forever grateful to him for that!!!
