LocateADoc Q&A
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Improving a patient's smile almost always enhances not only their appearance but also their self-image and self-confidence. I'm reminded of a particular patient for whom we did a complete smile makeover. She was insecure, withdrawn, was ashamed of her teeth, and lacked confidence overall prior to the makeover. She was thrilled with the new smile but disappeared for a little over the year. When she came in for a checkup we almost didn't recognize her - she'd lost over 100 pounds, gotten a big promotion, and divorced an abusive husband, and was brimming with self-confidence. She attributed all these changes to a better self image due to her new smile. We were happy to have helped propel her transformation from caterpiller to butterfly!
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I was a co-founder of Hopeful Smiles, which in conjunction with Attitudes & Attire helps women trying to get back into the workplace from very bad situations by providing training, wardrobe, and a smile that doesn't prevent them from being hired.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Creating an optimal, customized smile for any patient requires a combination of knowledge of physiology and facial symmetry, an artistic eye and skill, and a knowledge of materials and their characteristics of interaction. As an acknowledged educational junkie, I love keeping up with the ever changing science of materials, I have the artistic eye, and my 15 years of doing high-end cosmetic dentistry has provided the experience to know how best to put it all together for each patient. Net, I love what I create, and love staying abreast of advancements that can benefit my patients.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a chef. I love to cook!
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
Combining Da Vinci veneers, laser whitening, and Invisalign (to perfect the bite - good cosmetic makeovers that will last need a good foundation, just like a house) to create an enhanced smile really is exciting. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, I know it's going to positively impact the life of the patient which is also quite rewarding.
