LocateADoc Q&A
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Recently, a patient who had a Mommy Makeover told me that I basically improved the quality of her life and gave her more energy to dedicate to her family and friends by relieving her of her debilitating insecurities.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
Any organization that gives funds to soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan because these brave young men and women make it possible for all of us to carry on our daily lives as we do in America.
What does living in the Honolulu community mean to you?
This is a beautiful state with great weather, beautiful people, espousing the aloha attitude. For a guy from the westside of Detroit, this is heaven on Earth.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Good judgement comes from experience, and very often experience comes from bad judgement.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Plastic surgery allows me to be creative and artistic, but also requires the technical knowledge of wound healing and general medical information. Plastic surgery is 75% technical and 25% artistic. It requires the right amount of both right brain and left brain and matches my personality and my abilities.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
wishing I were a plastic surgeon.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I decided I wanted to be a surgeon in my third year of medical school, and of all the medical sub-specialties, during my internship, plastic surgery was the only one that truly appealed to me.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
A perfect outcome of a surgical procedure is when a patient is way beyond satisfied with the result, and they look great to me, to themselves, and hopefully to their significant others.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I love the complete Mommy Makeover because it gives my patients a second chance. They feel good about themselves, and they find freedom from insecurities that haunt them.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
Tummy tucks. At the Mommy Makeover Institute of Hawaii, we certainly do a lot of tummy tucks, but I would like to do more because patients love the outcome so much.
