Case: 8042 Category: Composite Resin Bonding Gender: Female Skin Tone: Fair Description: Michelle is a young lady who is congenitally missing several adult teeth. That means that these teeth never developed and so when the baby teeth fell out the space stayed open. She had braces to move the teeth into more ideal positions, but this still left gaping holes in her smile. Because she is a fairly young lady and still may have some growth before her smile is completely mature, we decided to do a cutting edge bonding procedure using composite filling material and a mesh matrix. This procedure requires little if any anesthetic and minimal to no tooth reduction or preparation. It is one of the most conservative cosmetic treatments. As you can see from the before and after pictures, we added a tooth on both sides and attached it to the teeth next to the space with a mesh matrix (you cannot see the thin matrix because it is on the back sides of the teeth. We also bonded the four front teeth to give them a more appropriate and pretty shape. This is a very cost effective and conservative way to close in a space with a tooth. It will not last quite as long as a porcelain bridge or implant, but in young individuals we may only be trying to get them through adolescence and then implants or porcelain restorations can be considered in the future. |
