Innovative Weight Loss Solutions (IWLS) at Geary Community Hospital offers a comprehensive surgical weight loss program designed to guide you through your weight loss journey.

Health conditions related to obesity can be deadly, and controlling severe obesity can be a matter of life or death.

IWLS is committed to the care of severely obese patients who have struggled to lose weight and keep it off through conventional methods. Our experienced surgeons offer three different surgical options, including the LAP-BAND®, open Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Our providers are also TRICARE preferred.

Lap Band

The LAP-BAND is a restrictive procedure where an adjustable band is placed around the upper part of the stomach creating a small pouch and restricting the amount of food that can be eaten. The band also controls the size of the opening to the remaining portion of the stomach, thus controlling the rate at which food flows from the pouch to the stomach, allowing the sensation of fullness sooner and longer. 

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

The laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) is a restrictive procedure where a thin vertical sleeve of stomach is made into the shape of a narrow tube or banana, and approximately 60 to 80% of the stomach is removed. The procedure works by not only reducing the size of the stomach but also removing the fundus, the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin, a hunger-stimulating hormone.

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

The Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a combination restrictive and malabsorptive procedure where a small pouch is created in the top portion of the stomach through several small incisions using long instruments and a small video camera. The remaining stomach is severed from the pouch, and the intestine is rerouted to the new, small pouch, bypassing a portion of the intestine that absorbs nutrients and calories.
