An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
The most rewarding experience I have had as a plastic and cosmetic surgeon is knowing that my patients appreciate not only my surgical skills but my caring attitude as a doctor. Everyone likes to be appreciated as an individual. It could be a tummy tuck patient who gives me a hug for now being able to wear a bikini to a young man with breast enlargement{gynecomastia} who can now take his shirt off at the beach. It could be a breast augmentation patient excited about new clothes. Patients that return with a smile, a thank you for changing their lives----- that is what makes my job rewarding.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
USO as I have a son training to be a naval pilot and he will be away from us for a long time. I am so appreciative of the sacrifice of our young men and women who serve our country.
The Humane Society of Indianapolis because of my love of dogs and paticularly Golden Retrievers. They are the most wonderful companions and have brought so much happiness to my family and me.
What does living in the Carmel community mean to you?
Carmel is a wonderful diverse community offering such community services as the new community center and the planned cultural center. It has been a wonderful place to raise two children in a safe environment. Infrastructure is modern and continually being updated.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
"It is what it is" meaning that we must sometimes accept the good with the bad as we go through life. We must count our blessings and remember the things that give life meanings. That is the relationships we have and the love of our family.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I chose to become a plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeon when I was in my first year of medical school. I wanted to be a surgeon but my chosen specialty allows me to work on many different areas and to perform so many unique procedures. It is always changing.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
I would come back as my Golden Retriever "Jack" who is treated like a king and receives and gives us so much love.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I realize I wanted to be a plastic surgeon after reading an article by Dr. Pitanguy in high school about cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. It was appealing due to the diversity of the surgery that can be performed as well as the continual innovations being developed.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
The perfect outcome of a surgical procedure is a thank you, a smile and a hug from my patient. It really does not matter what I think but that I have made my patient happy, positively affected their life and met their expectation.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
My favorite procedure is a tummy tuck combined with complete liposuction of the trunk. It gives me an opportunity to dramatically change a persons figure.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
I enjoy performing a Brazilian type breast lift with an internal muscle sling. It is a unique operation and I am one of the few surgeons in the area to do it.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would like to retire in 5 years and move to the west coast to be near my son and daughter and hopefully some grandchildren.
