An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
I can't pick just one. The most rewarding thing for me is when the patient returns after the hair has come in and I get to see the change in him or her. They'll come in beaming. You can see the increase in confidence in the way they carry themselves and just by the looks on their faces. It's fantastic! One experience I had recently was with a man of about 70 years old. He had the procedure and couldn't get over how good he felt about himself. His confidence was through the roof and he was even saying that he was getting "looks" by women in the street now. He was so happy, which really makes this type of work so rewarding.
What does living in the Winnipeg community mean to you?
Winnipeg is such a great city. It's not a very large city by comparison but it has so much going for it - the culture, the people, the new development - it really is on the precipice of becoming one of Canada's greatest places to live.
I really like the fact that it's not a large city. Primarily because it means that I run into a lot of my patients fairly often. I've done so many transplants in the city that the odds are such that I'm bound to see someone I've worked on, even if it was years ago. I remember how most of them looked before I worked with them so it's great to see how the transplant has lasted over time. It really is a permanent solution, and one that 99.9% of my patients are glad they followed through on.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I just love seeing the transformation in people. That's it. When people are losing their hair, it can be devastating. I help them recover from that and it really does make them feel great about themselves. Regardless of whether they are men or women, they love the way the look, and therefore, feel after their hair grows in. I love being the one that helps that happen.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I am also a dermatologist so I work with peoples' skin as well as their hair. If I could, I'd work with their hair every second of the day. Again, it goes back to making people feel better about themselves. It makes me feel great to see the transformation in their looks, personalities and confidence.
