What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Plastic surgery combines my interests in the medical sciences, art and is in a sense a specialty of "architecture in flesh". It involves the human element, rewards with an immediately visible result and provides intellectual challenge and ongoing learning

When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
in early medical school I met a Plastic Surgeon. I watched him perform a cleft palate repair on a baby and was taken by the precision of the surgery, the immediately visible result and the incredible difference it would make in that patient's life. From that moment I set my training sights on the specialty of Plastic Surgery

Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
A result that makes the patient happy. In order to achieve this one must begin the process before surgery by insuring that the expectations of the patient are realistic and that the surgery is being done for the right reason. An expectation that one's personal life problems may be resolved by plastic surgery is not realistic. A patient who seeks such surgery to resolve personal problems may be disappointed even if they have a technical optimal outcome from the surgery.

In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would retire if I felt that I was no longer performing at my best. I would not go anywhere specific as I would continue to pursue other interests such as sculpture, music, the study of history and enjoy my family.
