Welcome to the first step of choosing a therapist.
I have experience working with the military, specifically the Navy. Therefore, I welcome service members and their spouses to my practice. The practice also is conveniently located in Arlington, near the Ballston Mall.
A client-therapist relationship is unique in many ways, but similar to other relationships it is important to have a “good fit”. I believe that one of the keys to successful therapy lies in the client feeling comfortable and able to be him/herself without reservation or judgment. This is the type of therapeutic environment I provide. I also believe in facilitating increased self-reflection and insight so you have the knowledge and confidence to make the individual and life changes you want.
Are you a new parent and would like to talk about this major life transition? Being a parent brings great joy and can also bring many questions, doubts, and stressors. Talking about these feelings and how they affect various other aspects of your life can help you address your concerns.
We all experience the “ups and downs” that come with everyday life. How we cope with the “downs” and experience the “ups” can either add or detract from our quality of life. Sometimes life events throw us for a loop. They may affect our mood, the way we think, and how we typically behave in relationships. Speaking about these experiences with a professional can help you cope with these events and their effects. Are there certain ways of thinking or particular patterns of behavior that you catch yourself in year after year? Do you find yourself knowing what you would like to think, feel, or do, but just can’t seem to figure out what is getting in the way of accomplishing those goals? Speaking with a professional can help when you feel “stuck” and need to explore barriers to motivation and behavior change..
I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, hospital, and clinic settings. Some of my experience includes working with people with symptoms of chronic mental illness, depression, anxiety, relationship/family issues, trauma, adjustment issues, stress management, culturally related concerns, and with new mothers/fathers as they face this life transition. I also have worked with the military and welcome service members and their families to my practice.
Please note that I also offer a "Mothers on Maternity Leave" Group every Wednesday at 5:00pm.
