An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Repairing a cleft lip is incredibly rewarding because you know you have changed a life for many years to come. I am currently working with a burn victim, using expanders to stretch her skin to remove the burns. Her attitude and smiling face is an inspiration to me and my staff. I hope I would act the same in the face of such adversity.
What does living in the Amarillo community mean to you?
I've lived in many parts of the country but the people of the Panhandle make it so special. It is a safe, friendly, and family oriented community that makes day-to-day life so easy. I wouldn't want my children to grow up anywhere else.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Get busy living or get busy dying. (As many of you know, a line borrowed from Shawshank Redemption.)
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I'm detail oriented -- probably a little too much so. I love seeing tangible results and improvements in my patients. I also relish the long-term relationships I form with my patients.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a fishing guide. In a fantasy world, I'd be a professional baseball player.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
From the time I could talk, I swore I would be a "brain surgeon". It's hard to pinpoint what made me want to be a surgeon, but I'm glad it worked out. I think it's hard-wired in me to work hard and challenge myself.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
Easy. Happy patient=happy doctor.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I'll retire to Colorado to fish and enjoy the mountains.
