An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Seeing the confidence and happiness that develops when an area (such as the nose or breast size, or appearance of the tummy)is made into what I like to call a "non-issue".
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
The First Tee of Maine. Because the core values of the program are so important to the success of a young person.
What does living in the Portland community mean to you?
Portland is a community that is rich in culture. Whether its a concert that features a great artist in a smaller, personal venue or a world-class restaurant, there is great opportunity to enjoy life!
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I have always found the most satisfaction in repairing and restoring. The challenge of Plastic Surgery satisfies my desire to help people maximize their well-being.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a Park Naturalist
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I knew when I started Medical School that I wanted to be a Reconstructive Surgeon. I didn't exactly know what that was at the time, but right after my first year of Med School, I was working in the Brooklyn VA Hospital, and got to scrub in with the Plastic Surgeons, and knew immediately I had found my calling.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
The smile of someone who has achieved their goal
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
Abdominoplasty, because its usually done to correct the excess loose skin that is a result of a great personal triumph. By that I mean either carrying babies, or losing massive amounts of weight and thereby saving one's own life. The comfort and restoration of self-esteem that comes with the correction of the physical deformity is incredibly gratifying.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
Rhinoplasty, because the face our calling card; it is what presents us to others initially. And on the nose, very subtle changes are greatly magnified by the perceptive ability of the human brain for this small area of another's body.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
The south of France. I would tend to a small garden, hike the countryside, eat great food, and occasionally play golf.
