An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Boy, that's a hard one. This question really gets to the heart of why people become doctors. For me, providing a patient with a good outcome and seeing the gratitude in their expression or actions makes it all worthwhile. It is that look of appreciation where they know that I truly cared for them and about them, and handled them with care and gentleness.
What does living in the Santa Rosa community mean to you?
Santa Rosa is home. Although I was born in Detroit, I have been here since 1986. My wife and I have made this our home and have raised our three boys here. My friends are here and so are most of my wonderful patients.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
It depends on the mood and what we are talking about, but I love great quotes. My favorite might be by Clint Eastwood who said, "Take your work seriously, not yourself."
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
What a lucky choice Plastic Surgery has been for me! Happy patients, fun yet challenging work and so many new techniques and technologies to work with. I also have the good fortune to work in a field where I work with my hands and can utilize the artist's eye.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
pretty bummed out I am afraid. It's what I'm most interested in and have fun doing.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
Interesting question. My work is about happiness. Give me a patient who is happy with her result, and to me that is a perfect outcome.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
In a perfect world, I would continue working while I waved my magic wand and ended human hunger, disease, thirst and war. And then I would have a large serving of Cold Stone ice cream!
