What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of several treatment modalities within traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of thin, sterile, needles into precise acupuncture points on the body. Acupuncture, along with Chinese tuina medical massage and herbal treatment, works with the natural vital energy of the body, called Qi, to promote the body?s own ability to heal itself. People generally find acupuncture treatments to be relaxing and rejuvenating. All needles used in our clinic are sterile and single use only.
Why Does Acupuncture Work?
The Chinese medical explanation is that there are channels, known as meridians, which are full of Qi, and blood running throughout the body. These channels bring nourishment and vitality to our various organs, muscles, bones, etc. An obstruction in one or part of these channels is like a dam, which reduces that nourishment to that part of the body down stream. By needling acupuncture points, we can unblock the obstruction in the meridians and restore a regular flow of Qi and blood through the meridians. This allows the body to receive the nourishment it needs to heal naturally, rather than through the more invasive use of synthetic drugs and injections via the bloodstream.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is a very important part of traditional Chinese medicine. Its written history dates back 2,500 years, but herbal medicine has been practiced much longer than that. In China, traditional herbal remedies are still the backbone of medicine.
Chinese herbs are natural and powerful medicines. When an herbal formula is prescribed, it usually contains 5-15 herbs, specialized according to the individual?s condition. Tuina (Chinese Medical Massage)
Tuina ( pronounced as ?Twee-naa?) is a form of manual medicine, which has been used widely in traditional medicine clinics and hospitals in China for thousands of years. Tuina doctors in China perform the work of massage, acupressure, chiropractic and physical therapy combined. The techniques can be superficial and gentle or they can be deep and penetrating. Tuina is used to promote circulation, heal soft tissues and sports injuries, reset the relationship between bones and their surrounding tissues, increase joint flexibility, and balance yin-yang function of internal organs.
Tuina doctors are trained in five-year educational programs in traditional medicine colleges in China. After graduation, they serve additional apprenticeships under the supervision of experienced Tuina doctors.
