An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
For me, every pregnancy achieved for an infertile couples is greatly rewarding. However, assisting couples who have failed multiple advanced treatments and are literally on their "last straw" emotionally physically and financially, who then finally succeed, is particularly satisfying. I recall the story of an infertile couple who presented to my Center after failing a multitude of fertility treatments, including 5 failed IVF cycles. It was obvious at initial consultation that the couple was beyond desparation. They had invested their life savings into fertility treatments which yielded no results. Against their initial desire, I decided to scale back from additional complicated and costly treatments, and suggested a simple and basic affordable treatment. The treatment utimately worked! The patient and her husband could not believe their good fortune and were eternally grateful. Against all odds we succeeded by refocusing our efforts onto the patient and their true need.
What does living in the Encino community mean to you?
The Encino commmunity is exceptional in its diversity and culture. People of all walks of life live a comfortable safe living together in harmony.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
The relevance of the glass being half full or half empty rests in whether or not one is thirsty.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a doctor.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
Surgery is particulary gratifying because its healing effects are often immediate. Surgical conditions are often acute in nature, leading surgical intervention to often immediate positive effects on the human body. Unlike many other medical treatments, surgery is often targeted and precise, achieving great beneficial results quickly. An example of this is surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy (an abnormal implantation outside of the uterus). Without rapid treatment, this condition is potentially life threatening and devastating. With a simple surgical procedure, the threat is removed immediately and the patient's life is saved.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
In my specialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, surgical treatment is often geared towards improving a patient's chances of getting pregnant. Therefore, for me, the perfect outcome of a surgical procedure is a healthy pregnancy.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
My favorite procedure to perform is a tubal ligation reversal. Patients who have had their fallopian tubes tied often regret their decision in later years. A tubal reversal is a simple and affordable outpatient procedure which often restores a woman's fertility immediately. Patients who have had a tubal reversal often feel that their bodies have been restored to normal. They can then conceive naturally without having to resort to assisted reproductive technology.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
I would like to be able to perform more in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures for patients, because these are safe effective and successful treatments providing infertile patients with high odds for conception. Unfortunately, IVF is often costly, making it difficult for many patients to receive the care they deserve.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
In a perfect world I don't mind continuing on helping couples get pregnant until I can no longer physically do so. I have made this my life-long mission, to which I am committed.
