Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and growing up in nearby Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Benz also served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne in 2004. He has been awarded several accolades during his military tenure to include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Medical Badge, and the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Ribbons. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association.
