What defines a market leader? In any given locale, only one surgeon can be considered the innovator in a specific field of medicine. Dr. Allan Robbins has been a pioneer in the field of laser eye surgery for the past two decades.
In the early 1990's, Dr. Robbins became a principal investigator for VISX during the FDA clinical trials for PRK. In 1997, Dr. Robbins helped introduce LASIK to the Rochester, New York market. Two years later, he was the first laser eye surgeon in Upstate NY to insert INTACS (corneal ring segments) for the correction of myopia. In June of 2000, Dr. Robbins was the very first ophthalmologist in the area to treat myopia with a new generation, computer controlled, flying spot laser.
In 2001, Dr. Robbins introduced LADARVision to Upstate New York. Utilizing technology designed for the Star Wars program and NASA, computers for the very first time are able to track the rapid saccadic eye movements and deliver the laser energy as precisely as a missile homing in on its target. Again, Dr. Robbins is the first laser vision correction surgeon in the Upstate New York area to utilize this technology which is available exclusively in the Rochester, NY area at Robbins Laser Site.
In April of 2003, Dr. Robbins introduced the first wavefront-guided CustomCornea treatments for myopia. Robbins Laser Site is one of the first facilities in the entire Northeast to provide a truly customized treatment for both lower and higher order optical aberrations of the entire visual system.
Dr. Robbins is certified and experienced with the VISX Star, Summit Apex Plus, Technolas 217, LaserSight LSX and Autonomous LADARVision 4000 excimer lasers. His microkeratome experience includes the Chiron ACS, Bausch and Lomb Hansatome, Moria CB and LSK One.
BIO
Dr. Robbins was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. He received his MD degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his Ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College. The doctor later added a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Rochester, where he is an Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. Robbins a board-certified LASIK surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Professional societies include the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Refractive Surgery Interest Group (RSIG), the American College of Surgeons (FACS), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons (ISRS).
Dr. Robbins hobbies include computers, digital photography and sports car racing. When Dr. Robbins is not seated behind his laser, he can sometimes be found at Watkins Glen strapped behind the wheel of his racecar. Dr. Robbins and his SharpSight Motorsports team captured the New York State Road Racing Championship in G Production and GT-2 in 1995 and 1996. |
