Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Recently I performed LASIK on a 54 year old woman who had been farsighted (hyperopic) her whole life. When I walked into the exam room for her first day post-operative visit I saw she was crying. "What's wrong?" I asked. She told me that for the first time in her entire life she woke up with clear, crisp vision. "Even with glasses I have never seen this well, it's like a new world. It's so wonderful." Seeing the tremendously positive and immediate impact that LASIK had on this patient was a moving experience.
What does living in the Coon Rapids community mean to you?
My wife grew up in Coon Rapids and went to Blaine High School. Her deep roots in this community convinced me that this was where we wanted to raise our family. Getting to know my patients from Coon Rapids, Blaine, and Anoka has been a true pleasure. Good hardworking people with a strong sense of family and a love for the outdoors.

What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
For me there is no greater joy in medicine than to restore a person's vision.

a marine biologist. In college I spent a great deal of time at Duke's Marine Biology Station in Beaufort, North Carolina. I also did research at the University of Delaware's College of Marine Studies. I loved having the ocean or a salt marsh as my laboratory.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
When a patient has achieved the absolute best possible vision that they can achieve.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
LASIK is my favorite, simply because so many people can benefit from it and because it works so well and so quickly.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I can't imagine retiring, I enjoy what I do too much.
