| In practice since 1991, Timothy B. Cavanaugh, MD is a noted innovator in ophthalmology. He has performed thousands of laser vision correction procedures for the correction of all levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. He was a key study investigator who helped refractive lasers get approval in the United States. He was the first surgeon in the region to use the microkeratome used in modern LASIK procedures. Dr. Cavanaugh has extensive experience in sutureless, small-incision cataract surgery and is nationally recognized for his work in corneal transplantation. He is an expert surgeon and course instructor for PRELEX (presbyopic lens exchange) for the elimination of bifocals in patients over 45. Dr. Cavanaugh received both his medical degree and his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Kansas where he was Cheif Resident. He then completed a Surgical Fellowship in advanced corneal and refractive surgery at the prestigious Wilmer Institute of Johns Hopkins named the number one eye hospital and training program in the nation. Dr. Cavanaugh is an active teacher and lecturer at the medical meetings with numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters to his credit. He was recently honored as one of the top two ophthalmologists in Kansas City by a poll of 500 area physicians. |
