Lasik surgery has literally changed my life. I don't mean to sound like I'm exaggerating, because I'm not. When I wake up in the morning I'm not fumbling for my glasses. When it rains outside, I no longer have glasses to get fogged up or streaked with water. When I take a shower, I can read the shampoo bottle if I want to, and sometimes, if I look far into the distance, I can actually see leaves on trees that I was unable to see before even with my glasses. But these are just the little ways I have noticed, the overall effect is that I don't feel helpless anymore. I hadn't realized how dependent I was on my glasses (and contacts were too uncomfortable and too much of a hassle) until I was freed from them. I have always loved glasses as a fashion statement, and now I can wear them if I want to, but if they don't go with my outfit I'm not tied to them. I feel like a completely self-sufficient being now that I don't have to depend on a piece of plastic on my face in order to function. I felt confident that the Emory team would take great care of me.
