    Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
    There are so many... but recently, the military servicemen and women who have come in for surgery, served a tour of duty in the Middle East, and come back telling me how much easier, better and safer things were for them without having to mess with contact lenses in the desert heat, dust and sand.

    What is your charity organization of choice and why?
    American Cancer Society--I've lost a few relatives to cancer, and hope that in my lifetime it will be nearly eradicated.

    What is your favorite quote or saying?
    The difference between "ordinary" and "extraordinary" is that little something extra.

    What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
    Near instant results, exceptionally happy patients, and generally the ability to profoundly improve the quality of someone's life in a matter of minutes.

    When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
    I knew when I was a teenager. I volunteered with my local ambulance squad in New York (Spring Hill Ambulance), and instantly knew that medicine was the field I wanted to pursue.

    Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
    A patient thrilled not only with their new vision, but with how they were treated by me and my staff throughout the entire process. A perfect total experience, with no blemishes, from start to finish.
