Hair transplantation is a safe and proven medical procedure, done on an outpatient basis. Procedure Description
While seated in a comfortable chair designed specifically for hair transplants, patients watch movies or television during their hair replacement procedure. Patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. The donor area is numbed first using local anesthetic similar to that used during a dental procedure. The donor strip is then gently removed and the site is carefully sutured closed, leaving only (in most individuals) a very thin scar. The stitches at the donor site are easily camouflaged by the hair and are removed after 10 days.
With the use of a dissecting microscope or special magnification glasses, the strip is carefully divided into “micro-follicular units”. These tiny micro-follicular units or grafts contain only one to four hairs. These grafts are then carefully and expertly placed into the recipient site (the zone of thinning or baldness where the hair transplants are implanted) in order to create a natural appearing hairline or fill. Advances in hair transplant surgery allow us the ability to transplant thousands of hairs during a single hair transplantation procedure.
In some cases, larger grafts may be utilized to obtain the desired outcome; one size doesn't always fit all, nor is only one hair transplantation technique always the right one for all patients. Dr. Pizarro’s has 16 plus years of clinical expertise in hair restoration surgery, and as in life, experience makes the difference.
After the hair transplantation procedure is completed, the hair is shampooed,dried and styled, and the patient leaves the office without any unsightly bandages. We can also offer sedation medications to help nervous patients relax during the procedure – in these cases, another responsible adult must drive the patient home.
The results of the procedure are visible after one to three months.
