Educational Background

• Medical Degree: the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also received training in General surgery
• In addition to extensive training at the University of Maryland Medical System, he also received training in complex maxillofacial trauma reconstruction at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
• Dr. Vela completed his specialty training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the prestigious University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
• Dr. Vela also dedicated additional training, refining his cosmetic skills, at renowned New York hospitals- Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat and Lenox Hill, where some of the world’s foremost experts in plastic surgery perform procedures
• Dr. Vela is an author, lecturer and has educated physicians on various surgical techniques. He has been the featured plastic surgeon on numerous television programs and publications.  Dr. Vela frequently lectures to various clinicians, healthcare groups, organizations and hospitals throughout Maryland.
