An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I'm am very involved with the shelter for abused women and the American Cancer Society. I have helped abused women with their struggles and help them look as good as they feel inside after their situations. My office is currentally sponsering a charity walk for the Laurel Shelter in September. With also being an ENT physician, I see cancer patients an hate to see the toll it takes on a persons body and esteem. It's a very sad thing to see someone go through.
What does living in the Winchester community mean to you?
I grew up in the in the suburbs around New York. I trained in the City at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. A very urban setting where you see a great variety of people. An excellent training ground, but it helps you appreciate the quieter, simpler aspects of the quality of life in a rural community. Winchester offers a great blend of the best of the country setting and a metropolitan feel with it's proximity to major metroploitan centers in Washington and Baltimore.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I found that in my early training as a physician I enjoyed surgery. It is a different type of medicine to practice. I enjoyed placing my skills as a surgeon along side the bodies own ability to heal and care for itself. I focused my studies on the face and neck as an Otolaryngologist,(ENT) and was facinated by the intricate structures and organs of the face. Focusing on Facial Cosmetic Surgery really allows me to meld the two facets of medicine that spurred my interest throughout my career.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I was 13 and an illness hit in my family. At that point in my life, I knew this was exactally what I wanted to do.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
The perfect outcome of any elective procedure for me, is the satisfaction of the patient by surpassing their expectation and having no ancillary result that dampens their enthusiasim. You cannot sculpt a "perfect" feature, all my work is related to a patient's surrounding "aesthetic" The whole of their face. The result must blend and enhance the whole that already exists. A patient has an ideal or goal they want to acheive. If I can surpass their "dream" then to me it's successful.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I enjoy addressing the hopes of someone who comes to us because they just do not look as young as they feel. When I can transform their appearence so it better reflects the way they feel, it is a very rewarding feeling to see them leave the office, a new person, mentally even more than physically.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
I am an expert in Rhinoplasty's and I feel that patients are quite happy after having this done. The nose is the most prominant part of the face, and the focal point. It's very pleasing to see a patient be happy with thier nose.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I have four children, two of which are twins. Once my children have grown and they are taken care of, I would love for my wife and I to travel everywhere and see everything.
