Educational Background
A graduate of the University of Texas, Dr. Kristi Sumpter earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas in Fort Worth. She completed a general surgery residency, which included trauma, critical care, laparoscopy and endoscopy, at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Dr. Sumpter underwent additional surgical training at the Detroit Medical Center, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Saginaw General Hospital in Michigan and the University Medical Center in Las Vegas in the areas of pediatric surgery, melanoma/sarcoma/endocrine surgery, gynecology/oncology and trauma respectively. She also served as a clinical instructor at Michigan State University.

She is a Diplomate of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. She is on staff at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center and Willowbrook Methodist Hospital. Dr. Sumpter volunteers with the American Cancer Society and is highly involved in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. She has been published in the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Sumpter is originally from San Saba (central), Texas.

What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I have been involved in the treatment of breast cancer for several years. Because of this we make a small donation to breast cancer research regularly from some of the proceeds of elective breast surgery cases.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
"You've always had the power" from The Wizard of Oz. So much of life and our life experiences can be improved by realizing we have already been blessed with the tools to make things happen.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Most of our patients come to us healthy and happy. It impacts the environment in a positive way. Cosmetic surgery appeals to me because of the combination of the artistic side and the scientific medical side.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
I evaluate it in a couple of different ways. Of course, a happy patient is first. I want them to be not only satisfied but excited, thrilled with their result. Beyond that I want it to be up to a standard I set for myself. I'm a perfectionist from every perspective of every patient case.
