An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Seeing the smile in my patient’s face or the tears in her eyes as she tells me how this has improved her life.
Maybe the best experience is the woman who is finally wearing shorts after having her thighs liposuctioned, or the one telling me that intimacy with her husband is not an ordeal. The most blessed experience is seeing the pride in parents’ eyes as their child is no longer blighted with a cleft lip.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
Improving a person's life through my gifts...Now that is my passion. Natually I support cleft palate groups, like Austin Smiles, InterpPlast, Grace Air. Giving of time, talent and training is more satisfying than donating money. The payoff for me is seeing families smile. Watching a child begin the healing process to a full and productive life is the most important activity of my life.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.

What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I have been fortunate to have been blessed with the special ability to visualize beauty and symmetry in three dimensions. I was given the scientific understanding of physical, biological, and social sciences. I was vaccinated with a phonograph needle, so I am able to communicate with everyone. These are the skills necessary for success in a field such as cosmetic surgery.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
While I was in college, my younger sister was an “ugly duckling”, with big nose, buck teeth, and Dumbo ears. She underwent cosmetic surgery and it transformed her personality, self esteem, pride, and ambition. These changes more than anything inspired me to choose plastic surgery as my specialty.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
You screen your patients well, looking for commitment, understanding, and a clear idea of what are the physical problems.
Then you get to know the patient in order to understand what are their perceptions and expectations. You focus art and science upon the issues, and create or sculpt the physical parts to harmonize with the internal feelings and expectations.
You take off the bandages and a “butterfly comes out of its cocoon”.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
Breast reduction, it makes women so much more physically and emotionally fit. Besides, they hurt and large breasts damage the shoulders.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I have many interests….backpacking to beautiful sites, kayaking exciting rapids, cycling and rock climbing. In addition, I love to SCUBA dive since it transports me into a world where I am free to fly.
The explorer in me encourages travel to places off the usual tourist paths.
My servant’s heart leads me to mission trips to repair clefts lips and change lives… This is my greatest joy. I believe I can put all this together in retirement; repair clefts in Peru then repel down the cliffs nearby!
