An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Every patient I have ever treated has provided me with new insight and encouraged me to expand my knowledge and practice base. That is a rewarding experience I get to enjoy every single day.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I contribute to a variety of charitable organizations, but have a special interest in breast cancer research and treatment organizations.
What does living in the Fort Worth community mean to you?
I am so excited to be back in my hometown of Fort Worth. I feel honored to live and work in such a wonderful and diverse community.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
"We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”
Albus Dumbledore
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I always knew that I wanted to be a surgeon. I chose Plastic & Reconstructive surgery because of its diversity. Every day and every patient provides a unique opportunity to exercise my brain and force me to think about how to handle problems and challenges. I can never get bored...it is like Christmas every day of the week!
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a fly-fishing artist/photographer who travels...ALOT.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I think that I was 5 or 6 years old when I made up my mind...my dad is a neurosurgeon and a fantastic role model. The decision was easy.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
Unfortunately I never consider a procedure perfect...simply because I will always think about things that could be improved or different. That is what makes me try even harder on the next challenge.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
Abdominoplasty. There are few other procedures that make such a dramatic change. As a woman I have special appreciation for that change...everyone wants a flatter tighter stomach!
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
Breast reconstruction...it is challenging and rewarding.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would retire to Montana, open a farm and rescue retired horses in their golden years and fly-fish every chance I could.
