An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
While cosmetic surgery is always rewarding as it allows patients to physically realize what mentally and emotionally they desire to see, my most rewarding experience was a gentleman who had lost his entire nasal tip and upper lip to skin cancer. After 6 hours of reconstructive surgery and time to heal he can walk down the street and meet with friends without anyone telling he ever had a problem. A close second is several children with birthmarks on their face which have been removed, changing their life.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
We make financial contributions to many charitable organizations, many on an individual project by project basis, including the Zachary Scott Theatre, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Lake Travis Education Foundation. My charitable organization of choice however is my local church as they are able to distribute my financial gifts to many different worthy organizations as well as utilize the funds to support the local church needs.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I chose facial plastic surgery as a specialty over general plastic surgery for several reasons. The intricate anatomy of the face and neck always interested me and has proven to be very rewarding intellectually. The face is the one place where surgical work cannot be hidden by clothing and so the work must be perfect every time. I believe that the best surgeons are the ones who specialize with a very narrow focus and do many of the procedures frequently in order to master a small number of procedures and be the very best at them rather than working in many areas only adequately. By only working on the face we feel that we are able to be the very best in that area.
