Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient? I have helped many post-bariatric surgery patients over the years. Many of them have loved the fact that they lost all the weight and that their medical conditions improved. However, they often felt incomplete until they had post-bariatric reconstruction. Once the excess skin was removed, they often felt whole again, and their entire mood was positively transformed. This has been extremely rewarding for me to give patients an improved self-awareness and confidence that many of them did not have before their weight loss procedure.
What does living in the New York community mean to you? I love New York. It is really a cultural mecca and a melting pot of so many different kinds of people from all over the world. There is an excitement to living and working in New York that I don't think that you can get any place else in the world.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you? Plastic Surgery is a great profession. It combines science with artistry. Sure, you can teach someone how to do a breast augmentation, a breast reduction, a facelift, a rhinoplasty, or even a tummy tuck; however, to make it beautiful takes creativity, time, and effort. That is what I give to each individual patient.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal? I kind of always knew I wanted to be a doctor. I came from a family of healthcare professionals, and I saw how important it was to help others. I spent alot of time in high school and college volunteering at local hospitals and pursuing scientific research projects. I would say my experiences in medical school solidified my interest in plastic surgery. I saw amazing procedures being performed to help so many different people. I especially enjoyed the artistry that was involved to perform these procedures.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure? Although I always try to strive for perfection , I think that it is impossible to achieve. My goal is to do the very best I can for my patients. I treat them as if I am treating my own family. So this be said, a perfect outcome for me is to get the best result for my patients without any complications, and for them to be extremely happy with the result.
