The following is a letter of thanks to Dr. Ellenbogen and every one of the talented people that work in his office! During my teens and early twenties, I was mostly awkward and average looking. I really grew into myself in my mid to late twenties (even the nose that I never liked fit with my face for a while). It was for this reason that I was so upset and disappointed when, at thirty-one, I was dealing with premature aging problems, and a nose that started looking more and more like some relatives I would rather not have resembled too much.
I heard about Dr. Ellenbogen, and realized this was my chance to change these things. I was SO excited! The doctor told me that not only could he fix my nose, he could help with the down-turned shape of my mouth-- which I was really frustrated with. He told me about the chin implant and also about fat injections that would help with the deep creases that went from the bottom of my nose to the corners of my mouth. I was so overwhelmed with joy, I could hardly contain myself!
After some initial cold feet just before my surgery(which Im told most people get), I proceeded and had the surgery. Dr. Ellenbogen gave me an absolutely SHOW STOPPING, BEAUTIFUL nose, and to this day several years later, I am so happy about the chin implant and the fat injections!!!!!!!!! I have so much more confidence, and I just feel better from the inside out. My rhinoplasty looks so natural and subtle, but its enough of a change to make me feel fabulous! I am -- and have been for years-- so proud to tell people about how Dr. Ellenbogen changed my life! I show people my before pictures all the time, because I want them all to see what the doc did for me. Everyone thinks he is a genius, including me!

While at the University of Florida, Richard Ellenbogen excelled in both art and pre-med courses. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami Medical School in 1968. He then completed general surgery training in New York City. To satisfy an interest in plastic surgical correction of birth defects, Dr. Ellenbogen traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, where he served a fellowship at the Red Cross Hospital.
When he returned to the United States, Dr. Ellenbogen served a fellowship in hand surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During his training in New York, he worked as an assistant police surgeon in the South Bronx. Dr. Ellenbogen competed his residency at the State University of New York in Plastic, Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgery. This portrait artist-turned surgeon found his medium and went on to become on of LA's top plastic surgeons.
Dr. Ellenbogen moved to Los Angeles in 1975, and in 1978 he became board certified in Plastic Surgery. His personal medical suite was designed with state of the art outpatient operating rooms and museum quality antiques, which Dr. Ellenbogen refinished himself. Since 1980, his practice has been limited to cosmetic surgery, but Dr. Ellenbogen still performs reconstructive birth defects surgery and consults on cases involving complicated reconstructive surgery.
One of the most published and innovative plastic surgeons, Dr. Ellenbogen has written textbooks and scientific journal articles on facelift, eyelid surgery, forehead lift, breathing and cosmetic nasal surgery, underarm breast enlargement, and liposuction techniques, as well as research on silicone. Many of the techniques he has helped create are used and referred to by plastic surgeons all over the world today.
A two time recipient of the American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award, Dr. Ellenbogen is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the American Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Society, a Fellow of the AmericanCollege of Surgeons, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and a clinical instructor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Ellenbogen keeps current by attending and lecturing at international conferences at least once each year.
In giving plastic surgery its proper prospective, he sometimes views his specialty as a way to "jumpstart people" who would benefit by having their self-image enhanced. Dr. Ellenbogen offers his patients a good heart, a sense of humor, and an artist's eye.
A visit to Dr. Ellenbogen's office is much like dropping into the charming, comfortable home of a friend. The decor is warm and cozy, adorned with museum quality antiques, many of which were refinished by Dr. Ellenbogen himself.

Dr. Ellenbogen gave a presentation at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery/ASERF Annual Meeting April 16, 2004 - April 21, 2004 in Vancouver. Dr. Ellenbogen gave two lectures and a course; a lecture on facial reshaping, a lecture on less invasive operations, and a course on faster healing variations of standard operations.
Dr. Ellenbogen was selected for inclusion in the 2002-2003 "Guide to America's Top Surgeons" by the Consumers' Research Council of America, an independent research company based in Washington, D.C., that evaluates professional services throughout America.
Dr. Ellenbogen was named one of the Best Plastic Surgeons in America - Town & Country Magazine
Drs. Ellenbogen was invited to teach courses at the annual ASAPS meeting in 2003, including presentations on breast augmentation, liposuction, facelift and rhinoplasty and minimally-invasive techniques
The International College of Plastic Surgeons gave Dr. Ellenbogen the award for Best Presentation 2002-2003
Dr. Ellenbogen was awarded by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and their journal, the 2002 award for the best plastic surgery journal article on rhinoplasty in the world. He was presented with the award in May 2003 at the ASAPS meeting in Boston.
