An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
One of the most rewarding experiences started out rather disappointingly for a patient we can call Mary. Mary, who had already lost 30 lbs., came to us for a tummy tuck. She was very unhappy with her midsection. She was advised to lose an additional 25 lbs. for better results. I told her she would have better use of her money and time investment if she would undergo a weight loss regime that was primarily cardiovascular in nature. We have a program in our office that supports clients with these specific needs. With our support Mary did it and her tummy tuck looks fabulous. Mary emphatically says, "I love the new me." The girls in the office say, "she has a 12 year old tummy."
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I always knew I wanted to be a surgeon. My original training as a general surgeon opened my eyes to the specific needs of the recovering patient and their families. I chose to specialize in plastic surgery to help people embellish the quality of their lives. In addition to my medical assistant and other team members, we have a patient counselor to help the patient with education, support and counseling. I enjoy managing the team approach and making sure it works well in helping the patient accomplish what she/he wants to accomplish.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
A scuba diving instructor! I love to teach and I love scuba diving and would look forward to enjoying warm water diving.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
Facial procedures - with the baby boomers coming of age - 50 is the new 30 and 60 is the new 40. I'm having great success and am very excited about the new advances in facial rejuvenation. There is no reason why we shouldn't look as young as we think and feel. With so many new and improved techniques we can accomplish that subtle, youthful appearance without the wind blown look. You want to look refreshed not worked on.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would love to retire when my youngest finishes college. I would find a little place in the Caribbean - eat nothing but great seafood and scuba dive just for fun.
