Abdominoplasty is one of my favorite procedures. It changes the central core of a person's body and restores shape and contour. I rely heavily on the techniques that I aquired in Brazil for this procedure, tightening the abdominal wall in multiple rows. Other areas are contoured that are many times overlooked. In almost all cases my patients are so snug that they are kept in an overnight facility on the hospital campus for 2 nights, in a very large private room. Ideal Candidate:

Almost every week we perform Abdominoplasty in conjunction with Breast Lift or Implant surgery and Liposuction. When the breast is given better shape, the waist looks more slim and when the Abdomen is "tucked" then the breasts look better...BUT to do them together I think gives an unbelievable result that looks so dramatically different that patients look in the mirror afterwards and are ecstatic at the result. I believe in a very natural look and understand that most patients have the fear of being too big, and having them look too "fake". In most cases I use an Endoscope to develop the pocket in a very non-traumatic approach through the underarm. Scars on the breast are avoided if at all possible. The satisfaction rate of this procedure is EXTREMELY high. Most patients are just sorry they didn't do it sooner!!! Ideal Candidate:

This can be some of the more difficult surgery to perform in Cosmetic Breast Surgery. Many times implants need to be exchanged and relocated to a different plane in the body (above the muscle to below for example)and at times a lift on top of that. By using techniques I learned in Brazil, in many cases all revisions can be in one procedure and not in stages. Ideal Candidate:

I travelled to Brazil specifically to learn Breast Lift Surgery. I found that in most cases I saw in my residency, Breast Lifts were performed like Breast Reductions. I feel that they are very different procedures and I really prefer the Brazilian approach. For me, I think they hold their shape longer and show less tendency to "Bottom Out" with time. Ideal Candidate:

I prefer the Endoscopic approach to Breast Augmentation through a one inch incision in the underarm. By using the Endoscope I can abe assured of the correct location of the implant placement under direct vision and yet still have a very small, hidden scar.

John J. Corey is an Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon who has practiced in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1993. Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, he was Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix from 1994-1999. Dr. Corey performs all types of cosmetic surgical procedures. He lectures at ArizonaStateUniversity, GatewayCommunity College, and helps in the instruction of residents in plastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at MidwesternUniversity. He is one of the most respected and sought-after faculty members at the Osler Institute which provides hands-on review for practicing plastic surgeons nationwide who are preparing for their own Board certification. In 1998, Dr. Corey was voted one of the top doctors in plastic surgery by MaricopaCounty physicians in a CBS Channel 5 poll.
Brazilian Influence
Dr. Corey's approach to plastic surgery draws on his training here in the United States as well as Brazil. After graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine and fulfilling prerequisite training in general surgery at MaricopaMedicalCenter in Phoenix, he entered the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta to begin his plastic surgery residency. It was there that he met Dr. Renato Saltz, one of his professors, who introduced him to some of the surgical concepts from Brazil.
Intrigued by the Brazilian approach to plastic surgery, Dr. Corey traveled to Brazil in July 1993 to study in Rio de Janeiro as well as with other surgeons in other cities. His training there taught him to view plastic surgery from a more artistic standpoint:
"Brazilian surgeons seem to have a different 'eye' for aesthetic surgery…a different way of analyzing beauty and the human form. We Americans have a tendency to be very technical. We want to know exactly how much to contour and how much to measure. Brazilians seem to approach procedures more artistically. They don't rely on applying the same measurement to every woman. They really believe in sculpting the form and creating the curves and lines of the feminine shape."
A Focus on the Individual
Dr. Corey knows the importance of focusing on each patient as an individual. "People are paying the doctor to speak to the doctor, and, while much information can be given by other office personnel, that cannot take the place of the doctor-patient relationship." Dr. Corey further explains, "I have attended medical meetings where speakers will get up before an audience and, with great pride and boasting, report how little time they spend with a patient. I believe the patient ends the visit, not the doctor." To further ensure effective communication with his patients, Dr. Corey speaks both Spanish and Portuguese.
